Dave Barrett
General Partner, Polaris Venture Partners
Dave Barrett joined Polaris Venture Partners as a General Partner in May 2000 after a 22 year operating career. He invests in technology, with particular focus on software, internet, ecommerce, security and financial services technology. Executive career highlights include service as chief operating officer of Calico Commerce, growing the startup to a publicly-held company with over $3B in market value as one of the top-performing IPOs of 1999. Prior, he served as senior vice president of worldwide operations for Pure Atria/Rational Software and spent twelve years with Lotus/IBM, where among a number of executive roles he served as vice president of global sales and services as well as general manager of federal operations.
Stephen J. Harrick
Managing Director and Partner, Institutional Venture Partners
Stephen Harrick joined Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) in October 2001. He focuses on expansion-stage venture capital investments within the software, Internet, and communications sectors. Stephen led IVP's investments in Agile Software (AGIL), Business.com, MarkMonitor, Motion Computing, Teros, Tripwire and WebEx Communications (WEBX), and has been actively involved in IVP's investments in ArcSight and SkyStream Networks. Mr. Harrick currently serves on the Board of Directors of Business.com, MarkMonitor, and Teros. He earned a B.A. in History from Yale University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Irfan Salim
President and Chief Executive Officer, MarkMonitor
Irfan brings to MarkMonitor more than 20 years of experience growing and leading world-class Internet security, fraud prevention, and domain registrar companies. Prior to MarkMonitor, he was president and chief operating officer of Internet security company Zone Labs, which was acquired by Check Point Technologies. Earlier, Irfan was president and CEO of NameSecure.com, an Internet domain name registrar and services company. Irfan has also held positions including president of US and European operations at TrendMicro; president and CEO at desktop publishing and presentation software company Software Publishing Corporation; and vice president and general manager of the Spreadsheet Division at Lotus Development. Prior to Lotus Irfan spent 7 years with Texas Instruments. He holds an undergraduate degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London, and an M.B.A. from Manchester Business School, England.
Jim Sayre
President, Cargill Ventures
Jim Sayre has significant financial advisory experience. Prior to his current position, Jim was the Director of Mergers and Acquisitions for Cargill where he participated in transactions valued at over $5 billion. Key transactions include the acquisition of Continental Grain, Akzo Salt NA and Vandemoortele and the divestitures of Cargill’s seed, rice and North American poultry businesses. Before joining Cargill, Jim was a senior manager with Deloitte & Touche and provided financial advisory services to a range of consumer and agriculture companies including the Northface, Sierra Design, Sunworld, Mrs. Fields and several premium wineries. He also served in various positions in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Warren Weiss
General Partner, Foundation Capital
At Foundation Capital, Warren focuses primarily on investments in emerging software companies - both licensed and software as a service - as well as on those in the Cleantech industry. His involvement with on-demand software companies and Cleantech began years before investing in those areas became a mainstream event. Warren joined Foundation Capital in 2002 with more than 25 years experience in the software industry, including time as president and CEO of four public and private software companies. Most recently, he was president and CEO of Asera, a real-time software solutions provider. He currently serves on the boards of eMeter.com, Guardian Analytics, InterAct, MarkMonitor, nGenera, Purfresh, Quantivo, Rearden Commerce, SilkRoad Technologies, and Silver Spring Networks.
Susan D. Whiting
Vice Chair, The Nielsen Company
Susan Whiting shares oversight of The Nielsen Company with Chairman and CEO David Calhoun in the Office of the CEO, with a focus on client relations. Susan joined Nielsen Media Research in 1978 and became president and chief operating officer in 2001. Within nine months, she assumed the role of CEO as well as president. In 2007, Susan was appointed Chairman of Nielsen Media Research and Executive Vice President of The Nielsen Company. She was subsequently named Vice Chair of Nielsen in November 2008. Susan sits on the Board of Directors for Wilmington Trust Corporation, the Ad Council, Denison University and the YMCA of Greater New York. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Chicago’s Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. She was a recipient of the 2009 Women Who Make a Difference Award from the International Women’s Forum. In 2007, Susan was recognized by The Wall Street Journal as one of their “Women to Watch,” and by Crain’s New York Business as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in New York City.

Steve is a co-founder and general partner of Focus Ventures, focusing on investments in the enterprise software and electronic commerce areas. Prior to co-founding Focus Ventures, Steve was a Managing Director at Comdisco Ventures where he provided debt and equity capital for emerging growth companies. Previously he was a General Partner at First Century Partners, a $100 million venture capital fund affiliated with Smith Barney. Successful investments at First Century and Comdisco included Aspect Development, Elantec, Summit Design Technology, SuperMac Technology, and US Web. Steve holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and MS and BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
